See, this is what happens when I stop focusing on South Carolina.  I’ve spent too much time paying attention to what’s going on in Virginia so of course SC has to tap me on the shoulder and say “hey now, over here, still crazy, don’t forget.”

So I guess we’re back on this whole The President is from Kenya thing for some reason.

A kinder, gentler, more rational Republican party my ass.

In which Wolf Blitzer, of all people, schools Donald Trump on the air over his position on birtherism. An excerpt:

WB: Donald, you’re beginning to sound a little ridiculous, I have to tell you.

DT: You are, Wolf. Let me tell you something, I think you sound ridiculous, and if you’d ask me a question and let me answer it.

WB: Here’s the question, did the conspiracy start in 1961 where theHonolulu Star-Bulletin and the Advertiser contemporaneously published announcements that he was born in Hawaii?

DT: Many people put those announcements in because they wanted to get the benefit because of getting so-called born in this country. Many people did it. It was something done by many people even though they weren’t born in the country. You know and I know it.

(via Limbaugh Slides Into Birtherism: “ Obama’s Social Security Number Is From CT, And He’s Never Been There“)

Rush Limbaugh today breathed new life into the inflammatory lie that President Obama’s Social Security number is illegitimate. In response to a caller who cast doubt on Obama’s birth certificate, Limbaugh asked, “What are your thoughts on the fact that Obama’s Social Security number is from Connecticut, and he’s never been there?” This is only the latest long-debunked smear conservative talk radio hosts are re-injecting into the mainstream in this election year.

Limbaugh has repeatedly entertained and promoted the notion that Obama is not a U.S. citizen. At the same time, he has also warned his listeners to be wary of birther theories, cautioning them against going down that “dead end street” and claiming he’s “not going to be distracted” by such claims.

SHERIFF JOE ARPAIO SAYS MEDIA CONSPIRACY AGAINST BIRTHERS IS ‘BIGGER THAN WATERGATE’

Sheriff Joe Arpaio, the Maricopa County law enforcer who is leading an widely derided investigation into the authenticity of President Obama’s birth certificate, believes that the media is purposefully downplaying birthers’ efforts in a conspiracy “bigger than Watergate.”
In an interview with the Arizona Republic’s E.J. Montini, Arpaio said he believes the press is intentionally making the issue seem less important than it is. He also discussed the press conference he held earlier this month about his probe into President Obama’s birth certificate. […]
